FAQ

NOTE: in the FAQ, the word "event" refers to all categories (one-time and recurring events, happy hours, specials) unless otherwise specified.

Q: Who can create an event?
A: Anyone can create an event on The Scene!

Q: Who can edit an event?
A: One-time events can only be edited by the event owner. All recurring events, happy hours and specials are editable by anyone and changes go live once they are approved (approx. every 1-3 days).

Q: Why isn't my event showing up on the site?
A: One-time events should show up right away. New recurring events, happy hours and specials require approval by The Scene before they go live. If this hasn't happened after 3 days, please contact us.

Q: Who will see this event?
A: Everyone. Your event will be seen by visitors and users of TheScene.com.

Q: Where will this event show up?
A: The event will be listed in the general events calendar and the events calendar for the venue where the event is taking place. If the event is occurring within the week, it should also appear on the mini calendar on the venue page itself. It may also appear on the homepage or in one of our weekly newsletters at our discretion.

Q: How can I advertise an event?
A: You can share your event on social sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Digg and others for free using the simple share options on the event page. If you would like to explore advertising your event with The Scene to increase your exposure, please contact us.

Q: I want to post a recurring event that has many of the same features each time (same venue, same promoter, etc.), but some weeks (or each week) we have special guest performers or guest DJs as well. What should I do?
A: You can go about this one of two ways. You can either post a recurring event listing all the common features of the night from week to week and then post one-time events with the special performer info. Alternately, you can just post each recurrence as a one-time event. Each method has advantages.

If you choose to post the common info as a recurring event, make it clear in the one-time events that the special performers or DJs are associate with the recurring event. Since our calendars are organized chronologically, both events should appear together. In a future release, we plan to have a system whereby users can tag one-time events to recurring events, just as you can currently tag events to venues.

Q: I want to post a recurring event that is not weekly, but recurs monthly (1st Tuesday of every month) or bi-weekly (every other Friday), but on the recurring events entry form I can only post an event that recurs every week. What should I do?
A: We are planning on adding the ability to post events that recur at odd intervals, but that functionality is currently unavailable. In a future release, instead of a drop-down menu with days of the week, there will be a mini calendar on which you can highlight multiple dates. For now, we recommend just posting each recurrence as a one-time event.

Q: I'm a promoter and I don't want other users to be able to modify the info regarding my recurring events (nights). Alternately, I am a venue owner who doesn't want other users to be able to modify my happy hours and specials. Can I limit who gets to edit the events I post?
A: Not currently. We are working on ways to give certain types of users special privileges. We would love to get individuals who work in the nightlife industry (owners, promoters, DJs, bartenders, etc.) involved in The Scene, and one update we have in the pipeline is creating custom pages for certain people, with exclusive functionality. Stay tuned, and check our blog for updated info.

Q: I've read the FAQ and still have questions. What should I do?
A: You can contact support and someone will get back to you within 24 hours.
